Nagpurites join the ICICI Lombard rally, pledge on helmet usage for children pillion riders and parents

Nagpur : ICICI Lombard, one of the largest private general insurance companies in India, organized a rally today at Vinayakrao Deshmukh High School & Junior college, Lakadganj, under its Ride to Safety inititave. The company has conducted such drives in Mumbai and Delhi earlier.This rally aimed to raise awareness around road-safety measures, predominantly amongst two-wheeler riders along with the pillion riders.

The rally was attended by senior dignitaries from the traffic and transport department of Nagpur along with ICICI Lombard’s senior officials. Mr. Chinmay Pandit, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Traffic, Nagpur along withMr. Jerry Jose, Head-Human Resources, ICICI Lombard flagged off the event.

Among the different vehicle categories, two-wheelers account for the highest share in total accidents (35.2%), of road accidents in the country, as per the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways in 2018. Non-wearing of helmets by two wheeler riders caused 43,614 deaths and accounted for 28.8 percent of total road accident deaths in the country during 2018.As per thestatistics shared by Nagpur City Traffic Police although the overall road accidents in Nagpur declined by 9.84% in 2019 there was still a 4.8% rise in overall fatalities.

Being a responsible corporate citizen, ICICI Lombardcontinuously strives to be socially responsible and provides solutions through its various CSR initiatives. The company has undertaken interventions in the areas of Road Safety, Preventive Healthcare and Wellness. Under its Ride to Safety initiative, ICICI Lombard has always conceptualized impactful activities such as workshops, rallies and other on-ground activation. More than 500 workshops have been conducted in various municipal schools across Mumbai, Pune, Delhi, Nagpur, Chennai, Bengaluru and Ahmedabad since September 2015. ISI-marked specially-designed helmets have been given to over 1,00,000 children and parents post the workshops.
