'You Don't Own Me': Ajit Pawar To Baramati Crowd Upon Receiving Memorandum In Middle Of Speech
January 07,2025Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister on Sunday sparked a controversy while addressing a crowd in Baramati. Pawar said that though the people of the region had voted for his party, that does not mean that they owned him. The remarks from the NCP chief came while he had gone to the city to understand the grievances being faced by the people.
Pawar reportedly lost his cool when he was handed a memorandum in the middle of his speech. Upon receiving the memorandum, Pawar expressed his disappointment towards the people present there. “You have voted for me, does not mean that you own me," Pawar told the crowd. He also seemed frustrated with the crowd not listening to him and raising their issue while he was addressing them. However, Pawar did not specify what was mentioned in the memorandum given to him.
The remarks from Pawar immediately went viral on several social media platforms. Reacting to his remarks, NCP (SP) leader Jitendra Awhad stated that though he has won the election, he needs to understand that the people are supreme in democracy. “He (Ajit) needs to know that in democracy, voters are supreme,” Awhad stated.
Earlier on January 3, the Ajit Pawar-led NCP clarified that there is no chance that both the NCPs will unite again and that they are comfortable with where they are. They stated that the Ajit Pawar's NCP is intact with the NDA in the centre and with Mahayuti in the state politics. Maharashtra unit NCP chief Sunil Tatkare on Sunday stated that there is no need to rethink the decision of staying with the BJP.
“The party is an ally of the NDA at the Centre and in MahaYuti in the state. The NCP has recorded a thumping win in Maharashtra under the leadership of Ajit Pawar. Our agenda and stand taken in July 2023 is quite clear. We will continue with NDA and MahaYuti. There is no rethinking in our stand," Tatkare said.
While answering to a question regarding the possibilities of the Pawar family coming together for one more time, he said that politics and family are two different things. “There are no ifs and buts in politics, and I cannot answer such a question, family and politics are two different things," he stated.
