Lok Sabha Elections: Shivraj Patil's Daughter-In-Law Set To Join BJP, Meets Deputy CM Fadnavis

Lok Sabha Election 2024:  The daughter-in-law of senior Congress leader and former Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil, Archana Patil Chakurkar, is set to join the Bharatiya Janta Party on Saturday in Mumbai. This comes after she met Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Friday ahead of her formal arrival in the party.

LS Polls in five phases

Lok Sabha elections in Maharashtra will be held in five phases. Voting will be held on April 19, April 26, May 7, May 13 and May 20. The counting of votes will take place on June 4. Notably, Maharashtra has the second highest number of Lok Sabha seats in the country, after Uttar Pradesh. Maharashtra has 48 Lok Sabha seats, out of which BJP had won 23 seats, while Shiv Sena secured 18 seats in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

Who is Shivraj Patil?

Shivraj Patil, a seven-time Congress MP from Maharashtra's Latur had been a prominent face in the politics of state. Born on October 12, 1935, in Chakur village of Latur district of Maharashtra, he entered active politics in 1965.

In 1967, Patil won the election of Latur Municipal President. He has been the Municipality President three times. After this, Shivraj Patil won the assembly elections for the first time in 1972.

After this, he became MLA for the second time in 1977. Patil has also been the Speaker of the Maharashtra Assembly. He first won the election from the Latur Lok Sabha seat in 1980 on a Congress ticket and reached Parliament. Patil became MP from here seven times on a Congress ticket. Shivraj Patil has also been the Speaker of the tenth Lok Sabha. He has also been the Home Minister and Defense Minister of the country.
