We live in the era of internet domination. Well, our day begins and ends with it. Interestingly, anything and everything becomes viral in no time. While the debate on whether it’s a blessing or a curse still hasn’t reached a legit conclusion, it’s safe to say that it does prove to be a big bane for public figures especially actors. Imagine living under constant scrutiny 24/7 where every move you make and every outfit you wear is judged, discussed and dissed. Fame does come with its own sets of troubles, doesn’t it?
However, there are some celebs who don’t get their due recognition. But that never deters them from doing excellent work. They continue spreading their magic without worrying about appreciation or awards. Therefore we decided to curate a list of the most talented couples of the entertainment industry who actually give couple goals. Here’s a quick dekko:
1. Ayesha Raza and Kumud Mishra
It won’t be surprising if you recognise this amazing couple by faces instead of their names. Despite doing character roles, this duo makes its presence felt with their phenomenal acting capabilities. Ayesha has an interesting body of work to her credit with films like Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety, Dil Dhadakne Do, Befikre, Toilet: Ek Prem Katha and Veerey Di Wedding among others. She has been doing the doting mom roles but each one is vastly different from the other. Her better half is no less. He gained fame with his Khatana bhai role in Imtiaz Ali’s Rockstar. He then went on to become a part of many big banner films like Sultan, Rustom, Raanjhanaa, Airlift, M.S Dhoni - An Untold Story and recently released Mulk among many others. This couple’s method acting and screen presence is a treat to watch.
2. Vishal Bhardwaj and Rekha Bhardwaj
One is an ace director and other one is a soulful singer - together they are a powerhouse of talent! The beauty of Vishal’s visionary direction is that it’s not everyone’s piece of cake but the people who get it are super invested in his work. The movies that he makes have a niche audience. No matter what genre he selects his films always have dark side! From 7 Khoon Maaf, Maqbool, Omkara to Kaminey, his movies have complex protagonists and risky plots. Apart from his visionary direction he even gives the music in his films. Matching his steps is his better half - Rekha Bhardwaj. Her unconventional voice has given super duper chartbusters like Phir Le Aaya Dil, Kabira, Genda Phool, Raat Ke Dhai Baje and Judai among several others!
3. Supriya Pathak and Pankaj Kapur
This couple took character roles to another level. While Kapur is a TV legend who was part of the iconic shows like Office Office and Karamchand, wifey Supriya Pathak will always be remembered as Hansa behen from TV serial Khichdi. Even her filmography boasts of amazing hit films like Wake Up Sid and Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram Leela among many others.
4. Ratna Pathak Shah and Naseeruddin Shah
If you didn’t know that Maya Sarabhai aka Ratna Pathak is Supriya Pathak’s real sister then you have no right to call yourself a true blue cinema buff. Talent runs in the Pathak blood. Just like her sister, Ratna Pathak Shah is a renowned actress who has been a part of some of the most amazing movies and shows. From playing the legendary Maya Sarabhai in the show Sarabhai V/S Sarabhai to playing a bold character in the controversial movie Lipstick Under My Burkha recently, she has no qualms in taking risks and we just love her for that. What’s more when you have a super talented husband by your side, it’s just a win-win situation right? Who doesn’t know Naseeruddin Shah?! This national award winning actor has so many feathers in his hat that to discuss his body of work one will have to pen down a book.
5. Ashwini Kalsekar and Murali Sharma
Personally, Ashwini Kalsekar is one of my most favourite actress. I just love her vibrant personality and the way she brings her own flavour to every role she takes up. Her career revolved around both films and TV. Her portrayal of a baddie in hit Ekta Kapoor show Kasamh Se was a class act. She also played small roles in Rohit Shetty films. For me, her role in All The Best still remains to be the most amazing one. Hazaron Phool Barsao Mera Mehboob Aa-ya Hai, remember?
Her spouse Murali Sharma is also a renowned face in the film industry. Apart from Bollywood, Sharma has over sixty regional films to his credit. In Hindi movies, he has played a villian many a times.
6. R Balki and Gauri Shinde
These two aptly define the term power couple. Finding solace behind the camera, both of them have brought amazing stories in the form of spectacular movies on the silver screen. While Balki’s directorials Padman and Cheeni Kum won our hearts, Gauri Shinde turned our hearts to mush with English Vinglish and Dear Zindagi. The best part about these two are that instead of trying to compete with each other they work together on each other’s films!
7. Vidhu Vinod Chopra and Anupama Chopra
Vidhu Vinod Chopra achieved success from the word go! Chopra's first student short film, Murder at Monkey Hill, won the National Film Award for Best Short Experimental Film and the Guru Dutt Memorial Award for Best Student Film. Rest as they say is history! His movie 1942: A Love Story became a classic. His collaboration with Rajkumar Hirani resulted in several blockbuster hits like the Munna Bhai series, 3 Idiots, PK and the recently released Sanjay Dutt biopic Sanju. On the other hand, his wife Anupama Chopra is a well-established journalist, author and film critic.
8. Manoj Pahwa and Seema Pahwa
Manoj Pahwa is the classic example of Telly actor turned into a successful movie star. He made it big with his role of Bhatia in hit sitcom Office Office and then went on to do over 45 Bollywood movies like Dil Dhadakne Do, Singh Is King, Jolly LLB and the recently released Mulk among several others. Mrs Pahwa also started off as a Telly actor. She played a pivotal role in Kasamh Se. However, she has now become the favourite new mom of Bollywood. She won hearts with her excellent performances in recent films like Dum Laga Ke Haisha, Bareilly Ki Barfi, and Shubh Mangal Saavdhan.
9. Kay Kay Menon and Nivedita Bhattacharya
A seasoned theatre actor Kay Kay has always been a part of selective films. Staying clear of hardcore mainstream commercial films he wooed the audiences with his performances in films like Gulaal, Haider, Black Friday and Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi among many others. Nivedita, on the other hand, is a successful TV actress who has been a part of several hit TV serials. She recently played the role of a reported in film Aiyaary.
10. Meher Vij and Manav Vij
This couple is fairly new in comparison to the other couples in the list. Meher made headlines recently for portraying the role of a strong mother in both Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Secret Superstar. Manav, on the other hand is a doctor by profession who ventured in the acting business with TV soap Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. He has played small roles in movies like Phillauri, Udta Punjab, Naam Shabana and Rangoon.
11. Anupam Kher and Kirron Kher
National award winner and FTII chairman, Anupam Kher is an actor who conquered Bollywood long back. What’s more he has also been part of many Hollywood films. He has even received BAFTA nomination for his supportive role in the British television sitcom The Boy With The Topknot (2018). He has also held position of Chairman in NSD and CBFC in the past. His filmography consists of over 500 films. Kirron Kher, his better half, is an established actress herself.
