Bank holidays in October 2022: Banks to remain closed for 21 days across India, check full RBI holiday list

Private and public sector banks across the country will remain closed for a total of twenty-one days in the month of October including the second and fourth Saturdays and Sundays. There are five Sundays in the month. The number of bank holidays in the upcoming month is more owing to a national holiday - Gandhi Jayanti and other festivals like Durga Puja, Dussehra or Vijayadashami, Diwali.

It may be noted that the banks in India follow the gazetted holidays. While all banks remain shut on public holidays, some banks observe regional festivals and holidays. Regional bank holidays are decided by respective state governments. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) categories holidays in the following sections:

  • Holiday under Negotiable Instruments Act
  • Holiday under the Negotiable Instruments Act and Real-Time Gross Settlement Holiday
  • Banks Closing of Accounts

The month of October observes 21 bank holidays with the first holiday starting from Gandhi Jayanti on October 2. This is followed by other holidays like Durga Puja and Dussehra or Vijayadashami on October 5. Diwali or Deepawali bank holiday will be observed on October 24 all banks in India except some states.
