Renowned actress Pooja Hegde is set to make a significant mark in the Tamil film industry with her upcoming film ‘Retro,’ where she will be seen opposite Suriya. What makes this project even more special is that Pooja will be dubbing in her own voice for a Tamil film for the first time, showcasing her dedication to the craft.

Pooja Hegde has already established herself as a versatile actress across Bollywood and South Indian cinema, particularly in Telugu films. However, ‘Retro’ marks a new milestone as she ventures into Tamil cinema with a unique challenge—voicing her own character in the language. Dubbing can often be a daunting task, especially for actors who are not native speakers, but Pooja embraced the challenge head-on.

The production house, Stone Bench Films, revealed that the actress was cast after an extensive search. Director Karthik Subbaraj and his team wanted a leading lady who could bring authenticity to the character. Pooja’s talent and screen presence made her the perfect choice, but there was one initial concern—whether she could fluently deliver dialogues in Tamil.

Pooja, known for taking on challenges throughout her career, assured the team that she was ready to step up. She underwent rigorous Tamil language training, ensuring that she could deliver dialogues, including lengthy monologues, with fluency and confidence. The crew was particularly impressed with her ability to adapt and her willingness to go the extra mile for the role.

A source from the production revealed that there were several fun moments on set, as Pooja practiced and occasionally struggled with complex Tamil words. However, her determination paid off, and she delivered an impressive performance during the dubbing process.

A Star-Studded Cast

Apart from Pooja Hegde and Suriya, ‘Retro’ boasts an ensemble cast featuring Joju George, Jayaram, and Karunakaran, promising a thrilling cinematic experience. The film, high on action and drama, is slated for a grand theatrical release on May 1, 2025.
