Four Soldiers, Civilian Killed in an Encounter in J&K’s Pulwama

Four Army men, including a Major, have been killed in an encounter that broke out between security forces and terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama on Monday, 18 February.

According to reports, a civilian was also killed and a soldier was injured in the encounter at Pinglan area of Pulwama.

Pakistani national Kamran and Hilal, a local, have been identified as suspected terrorists who are trapped at the encounter site, CNN-News18 reported on Monday, adding that the militants are believed to Jaish-e-Mohammed commanders.

The encounter broke out in the early hours of Monday, when security forces – Rashtriya Rifles (RR), Special Operations Group (SOG) of the state police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) – surrounded Pinglena village after a tip-off about Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) militants hiding in the area.

The terrorists reportedly opened fire after security forces zeroed in on two to three hideouts.

Soldiers killed in the encounter belonged to 55 Rashtriya Rifles battalion of the Indian Army.

The encounter comes just days after at least 40 jawans were killed in an attack on a CRPF convoy in Pulwama's Awantipora on 14 February. The attack was also claimed by Pakistan-based terror outfit JeM.
