October 01,2024

Day 4 of the 2nd Test between India and Bangladesh was the one to remember as it witnessed record-shattering batting by the Indian team at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur. The Indian batters went ballistic and gave the Bangladesh bowlers a run for their money. Not just the top-order or the middle order, but the tail-enders also ensured to hit the bowlers out of the park. Akash Deep was one such batter who walked out to bat in the 34th over after the fall of Ravichandran Ashwin's wicket.

What caught everybody's attention was the sticker of popular tyer makers on Akash Deep's bat. A certain section of fans on social media speculated that the bat could be the one which Virat Kohli gifted him. Interestingly, Akash Deep slammed two back-to-back sixes against Shakib Al Hasan on the second and the third ball he faced. The likes of Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Gautam Gambhir were spotted smiling after seeing Akash Deep's onslaught. A certain section of fans was quick to notice the bat which Akash Deep was using and felt that it was obvious that the bowler would pull-off something special with Kohli's bat.

When Virat Kohli gifted bat to Akash Deep

Notably, Akash was recently gifted a bat by Kohli as he shared its photograph with his fans on social media. The Bengal fast bowler thanked Kohli in his Instagram story and shared his prized possession. However, recently Akash Deep said that he will never play with the bat gifted to him by the star India batter Virat Kohli.

Recalling the moment, Akash revealed that he didn't ask for it from Kohli and he gifted him of own volition. The seamer said that the former India captain must've been impressed with his batting and vowed to never use it and keep it as a souvenir forever.

"Virat bhaiya ne khud se bat diya tha [Virat bhaiya himself gave me the bat]. He must have observed something about my batting. I didn't ask for it; he came to me and asked, 'Bat chaiye kya tujhe?(Do you need a bat)' Who wouldn't want a bat from Virat bhaiya? He is a legend. I was very happy to hear his words and wanted that bat. He asked me what kind of bat I use while batting, and I just smiled-I didn't have words. Then he said, 'Yeh le, rakh le yeh bat(Here, take this bat).' I will never play with that bat; it is a big gift from Virat bhaiya, and I will keep it as a souvenir on the wall of my room. I even got his autograph on the bat," Akash Deep told Times of India.
