Ravindra Jadeja's tweet after picking 7-wickets in his comeback Ranji Trophy game goes viral

January 27,2023

Ravindra Jadeja, the star Indian all-rounder, was on fire for Saurashtra in their Ranji Trophy Elite Group B match against Tamil Nadu on Thursday (January 26). The 34-year-old cricketer made his comeback in style, taking seven wickets in the hosts' second innings in the game, which is being played at Jadeja's adopted home ground, Chennai's MA Chidambaram Stadium.

After managing to take only one wicket in the first innings of his 24-over spell, Jadeja roared back in the second innings and dismissed seven Tamil Nadu batters for just 53 runs in his 17.1-over spell. The left-arm bowler was on display from his first over itself, when he accounted for the dismissal of No. 3 batter Shahrukh Khan (2). There was no stopping him from there on, on the third day of the game, as he showed why he’s the world’s No. 1 Test all-rounder.

At the end of the third day’s play, Jadeja took to Twitter to post a picture of the match ball and captioned the post, "First cherry of the season. #redcherry." And his tweet quickly went viral on the microblogging and photo-sharing site.

Jadeja, who hasn’t played for India since August 31, 2022, will make his return to the national team next month. He's been selected in the Indian squad for the first two Tests against Australia, which will take place in Nagpur from February 9–13 and Delhi from February 17–21.

Thanks to Jadeja’s 7 for 53 and his namesake Dharmendrasinh Jadeja’s 3 for 64, Saurashtra managed to dismiss Tamil Nadu for 133 runs only in the second innings. Saurashtra now needs 262 runs more on the final day of the game to win, but they only have nine wickets in hand as they lost opening batter Jay Gohil (0) before the close of the third day’s play.
